GO-BC partners with IPBC

GO-BC is thrilled to announce our invitation by the International Partnership for Blue Carbon (IPBC) to become its newest partner. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action as part of the UN's Ocean Decade. The announcement was made this week by Steve Clark (Australian Government and IPBC Coordinator).

About the Partnership

The partnership between GO-BC and IPBC aims to leverage our cimbined expertise and resources to enhance the conservation and restoration of blue carbon ecosystems, which include mangroves, tidal marshes, and seagrass meadows. These ecosystems play a crucial role in sequestering carbon dioxide, mitigating and adapting to climate change, and supporting biodiversity and local economies.

Key objectives

Knowledge sharing and Capacity Building: Together, we will faciliate the exchange of scientific research, best practices, and innovative methodologies to advance blue carbon science and capacity building globally.

Policy and advocacy: GO-BC and IPBC will collaborate to influence policy frameworks and advocate for stronger international commitments to blue carbon conservation an restoration, as well as the inclusion of blue carbon habitats into NDCs.

Why This Matters

Blue carbon ecosystems are some of the most effective natural solutions to address the challenges of climate change. They store vast quantities of carbon per hectare and provide many essential services such as coastal protection, fishery support, and water purification. However, these ecosystems are under threat from human activities and climate change. By joining the IPBC, GO-BC will enhance its position as a globally influential partnership of blue carbon researchers, committed to meaningful science policy advice to support global efforts to safeguard these vital habitats.

A Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future

Both GO-BC and IPBC share a vision of a sustainable future where blue carbon ecosystems are conserved and restored for the benefit of people and nature. This partnership is a testament to our dedication to creating impactful environmental solutions and fostering international cooperation.

We look forward to working closely with IPBC and our global partners to drive forward ambitious blue carbon initiatives and make a lasting positive impact on the environment.
