Anna Lafratta
Anna Lafratta is a Lecturer in Marine Ecologist at Edith Cowan University. Her research focuses on vegetated coastal ecosystems (VCEs), such as seagrasses, tidal marshes and mangroves, and their ecosystem services (e.g., CO2Â capture, pollutant filters, biodiversity). In her research Anna uses VCEs sedimentary deposits in two ways: 1) to understand their role as biogeochemical sinks and in climate change mitigation and adaptation; and 2) as environmental archives to reveal past ecological changes and ecosystem responses to them. In this context, VCEs archives can be used as monitoring tools to inform coastal management and to identify opportunities for climate change mitigation and adaptation, such as the one related to Blue Carbon (BC). She has been involved in several BC capacity building activities and worked with South-east Asian NGOs, Australian government agencies, national and international universities to increase the understanding of carbon capture by VCEs. Anna has also a strong interest in understanding history of contamination and associated pollutant sediment stocks by looking at VCE archives to help improving the management of highly polluted coastal environment.
