Daniel Friess

Dan is the Cochran Family Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Tulane University and Director of the Murphy Institute’s Center for Public Policy Research. His research includes quantifying blue carbon stocks and fluxes, how blue carbon changes with deforestation and climate change, and the use of blue carbon to incentivize habitat restoration and carbon credit projects. Much of Dan's research has been conducted on mangroves and seagrasses in Southeast Asia, and is done in collaboration with governments, NGOs and the corporate sector. Dan is a member of the Blue Carbon Initiative Scientific Working Group and the IUCN Mangrove Specialist Group, and he is co-Editor in Chief of the journal WIREs Climate Change. For more information please visit www.themangrovelab.com
