Janine Adams
Janine Adams is a distinguished professor at the Nelson Mandela University (South Africa), Deputy Director of the Institute for Coastal and Marine Research and holds the Department of Science and Innovation/National Research Foundation Research Chair (SARChI) for Shallow Water Ecosystems. Her research focuses on the conservation and management of coastal ecosystems working across the science-policy-practice continuum. Ongoing research is investigating blue carbon ecosystems (salt marsh, mangroves, seagrasses) and responses to climate change, as well as coastal water quality management. Action research is implemented to inform the restoration of estuaries for the delivery of multiple ecosystem services. Janine has published over 220 journal articles, as well as several book chapters and technical reports/policies. She is passionate about research training and capacity building and have graduated 44 MSc and 24 PhD students. Janine is currently senior editor of the journal Coastal Futures, associate editor of Estuarine, Coastal & Shelf Science and Vice-Chair of the Western Indian Ocean Mangrove Network.
